Mission

The purpose of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Behavioral Health programs is to provide comprehensive, individualized, and holistic treatment to include; residential substance abuse treatment, outpatient mental health and substance abuse services, and prevention to Native Americans. A cultural and sensitive approach shall be taken in the delivery of counseling, outreach, crisis intervention, administrative services, preventive measures, evaluation, planning for the appropriate mental health and substance abuse services and referrals to clients served.

Philosophy

It is an Anishnabe belief that we look at the traditional wellness model instead of the symptomatic concept of illness. This way we focus on the strengths of the person being served, the family, the community and the support systems of the person being served, to help guide this individual on the road to wellness. The philosophy of the Behavioral Health Programs shall be to help our community members to identify those tools and resources necessary to achieve a balance in their life. The medicine wheel concept of integrating the four components of spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual aspects of a person's life, into a holistic model of recovery is our goal.

Services Offered

The outpatient program strives to meet the needs of the Anishinabek population of children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly through the delivery of integrated services. This program is guided by ideals and principles that are reflective of the Anishinabek values and beliefs.

Cultural Services

Traditional Healer

The primary goal of the Traditional Healer is to empower the individual to make healthy lifestyle decisions by introducing culturally relevant activities and services and to assist with the cultural aspect in the healing process of an individual.

The Anishinabek people believe that in order to achieve balance in life, a person must be healthy in all four aspects of their lives: spiritual, mental, physical and emotional. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Behavioral Health Program embraces these four aspects of life as they also recognize that the healing process must focus on the person being served, as well as the family, the community and the support system of the individual.
